11. Collisions with obstructions other than balloons

Obstructions can be:

  1. Trees (painted - 1" or more in diameter)
  2. Low Structures, which are:
    1. All painted buildings and building models.
    2. Fuel storage tanks
  3. Tall structures - towers and smoke stacks over 1".

If flying into a hex with an obstruction

Subtract plane's level from roll

Low  Tree or low  >= 5
Low  tall  >= 4*
Middle  tall  >= 6*
If number or more roll on Table 11
*If the plane could turn it may add three to the die roll by expending
all of its forward momentum.

TABLE 11 - Collision Damage Table (d10)

Roll  Result
1, 2, 3, 4  No damage
Roll 1 critical hit
6 Roll 2 critical hits, plane veers
7 Roll 3 critical hits, plane veers
7 Roll 4 critical hits, plane veers
9 or 10  Plane destroyed*
If collision is with a tree, subtract one.
*Roll d10 for destruction of object:
  • 1 - 7 Not destroyed
  • 8 -10 Destroyed·
    • If a fuel structure, add three to roll·
    • If bombs still on plane add two to roll

If a plane collides with a structure due to an uncontrolled dive roll on the table above for effect on structure.
