Player Instructions

Ploesti is played in three parts - the approach, the low level attack on the oil refinery, and the return. These links are for the instructions to players for each of these parts.

These instructions are intended to be "secret." The information contained in each might give the other player some advantage.

US Player Axis Player

Bombers enter the table, one group per turn. For each six plane group roll d20. For numbers 1 through 10 the group enters that number of hexes to the right of the center of the map. For numbers 11 - 20 the group enters that number of hexes (minus 10) to the left of the center of the map.

Eight Air Force planes must enter the map from middle 4 to high 2.

Ninth Air Force planes must enter in the map from middle 4 to middle 6. They may never enter the high altitude band.

All bombers must exit the table between the indicated positions at the far end of the map and at middle four or higher or they are considered to have aborted.

Indicate the level and entry turn (1, 2, or 3) of the bomber formations below.

Bombers will enter based on the entry turn specified above.

Do not inform the Axis player (s) of this number!

Prior to deploying each group review crew deployment and make any changes necessary.

US player wins if over 90% (27 or more) of the bombers exit the table edge and are able to attack Ploesti.

The Avia B534 cannot fly in or enter the high band.

You have eight flights to deploy. 1 - 4 are Bulgarian and 5 - 8 are German night fighters. Break these into three groups and label (1, 2, or 3). For each flight Indicate band, level, and group on the table below .

The Americas will select a number (1, 2, or 3) and that number determines the base entry time and position of the fighter squadrons.

When a group is scheduled to enter:

  • During bomber movement roll d10 for each group. A roll of 6 or more means the group enters that turn.
  • Roll d10. 1 -5 means the flight will enter to the right of the bomber stream, 6 - 10 to the left.

First group picked: Begin rolling during turn 1

  • Fighters may enter at any location from hex row 1 to hex row 20.

Second group: Begin rolling during turn 5

  • Fighters may enter at any location from hex row 21 to hex row 40.

Third group: Begin rolling during turn 10

  • Fighters may enter at any location from hex row 41 to hex row 60.

US player wins if over 90% (27 or more) of the bombers exit the table edge.
